Throughout every classroom, character education is implemented to improve the quality of our students. We have partnered with the National Character Counts program and practice the six pillars throughout the year. The six pillars are trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, caring, fairness and citizenship. This month the entire school focused on the pillar of caring. Topics in the classroom included being compassionate, kind, considerate and charitable. Some of the fourth and fifth graders took the act of caring into action and created blankets for children that are patients at Joe Dimaggio Hospital. The entire school also participated in the act of caring by donating toys to the Toy for Tots campaign and helped raise money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. The students raised money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation by writing letters that were beautiful, creative, funny, caring and compassionate for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. The Make-A-Wish Foundation is an organization that grants a “wish” to a child who has a life-threatening medical condition. At Franklin Academy, we plan on continuing to improve our community with applying Character Counts throughout the year with our actions and education.
